Meet Our Dean鈥檚 Office Student Workers

Tunca 鈥淚sik鈥� Askin is a history and philosophy major who expects to graduate next year. His ultimate goal is to be a college philosophy professor. Right now he works three jobs: at the restaurant Turkish Delight, at a public defender agency as a law office assistant, and in the Dean鈥檚 office as a student worker in faculty support.

In this capacity he helps faculty with room reservations, key requests, moving offices, organizing documents, administrative tasks, and as Dean鈥檚 office receptionist. Working here has given him a whole new perspective on the behind-the-scenes at a college. 鈥淚 realize now that the faculty do a lot more than just grading.鈥�

Isik likes the team dynamic at the College, although admits things have been somewhat slow this year since the campus isn鈥檛 fully back in person yet. Experiencing the faculty/staff dynamic has been illuminating and will give him a good perspective on balancing those relationships when he becomes a professor some day. For now, he鈥檚 happy being that go-to person in the Dean鈥檚 office, working on special projects or day-to-day support for faculty.

Anujin 鈥淎nu鈥� Bayarjargal did not know how much fun it would be working at the Dean's office. 鈥淚 love working with our team at the Dean鈥檚 office because everyone at the office is very friendly and willing to help you out,鈥� she said. Anu is pursuing a double major in Accounting and MIS. She has been a student worker in the Dean鈥檚 Office since January, and juggles work at CBPP with another job with University of Alaska Human Relations.

At CBPP, Anu is the first point of contact for office visitors, and has gotten experience with customer service. 鈥淚 gained valuable office-work and communication skills through working on interesting projects and communicating with students and professors on a daily basis.鈥� Anu expects to graduate in Spring 2023, and plans to take the CPA exam afterward. 鈥淚 hope becoming a CPA will give me an edge in the workplace,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 want to continuously progress in my career and sharpen my skills as I get started on my professional journey.鈥�
